Remembering the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster

I almost forgot that today is the 26th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.  May those who perished rest in peace.

On the day of the Challenger disaster, my husband Jim and I sat in the hospital waiting room of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.  There, our six-year-old daughter Catherine was having a cardiac catheterization elsewhere on the floor in preparation for an impending major surgery.  To divert ourselves a bit we watched the news program which was showing the space shuttle launch.  Things like that were still exciting for me then.   We were horrified to watch the explosion in real time.  I can still feel now the sorrow I felt then for the loss of lives.
